About

Now living in Colne, I was born in Burnley Lancashire 1953.
Was taught to play guitar by a lovely chap called Alf Marsden back in 1969/70.Alf was a wonderful player who gave Tony Hicks of the Hollies his first guitar lessons.
I play mainly solo fingerstyle guitar, in the blues/folk vein.
The guitars that I play now are an Ovation Celebrity shallowback and a Gibson Nick Lucas Re - Issue Acoustic.
These are normally tuned to either open G,C or D.
I don't play in public these days but now and again if asked by friends.

Likes Rock, Blues, Jazz, Metal, Classical, Singer/Songwriter, Country, Rockabilly, Classic Rock, Folk, Hard Rock, Fingerstyle, Acoustic, and New Age

Thanks Allistair for your comment. I well remember Alf's Hofner Committee and playing it on several occasions during lessons. I remember Alf telling me a tale of when he accidently ran over it with his car after a gig. He said that he was a bit worse for drink and set off home in his car forgetting that his guitar was leant against it! Thats happen one reason why the guitar is knackered! My dad knew Alf and his wife and that's how I came to have lessons with him. If I remember rightly, Alf played in various local dance bands and one of his favourite guitarists was Eddie Lang. He once tried to teach me one of Eddie Lang's pieces, but I failed miserably! I remember Alf with great affection, he was a lovely guy and a great teacher. Hope that this has helped you in your quest. Cheers -- Geoff.

Geoff I too was taught by Alf, and i have recently been in touch with his great grandson, and persuaded him to sell me his old (knackered) Hofner Committee. I am interested in some more history re Alf and the guitar. Can you help any ?
